Herniated Disc: Symptoms and Modern Treatment Options

SymptomsProcedures

A herniated disc is one of the most common causes of back pain. Every year, thousands of patients in Uzbekistan seek help from neurosurgeons for this condition.

Send your MRI — a doctor from the team answers you by voice within 48 hours.

What is a herniated disc?

The intervertebral disc consists of a tough fibrous ring and a soft nucleus. When the ring tears, the nucleus pushes out and compresses nerve roots, causing pain, numbness, and weakness in the extremities.

Symptoms

  • Sharp lower back pain radiating to the leg
  • Numbness or tingling in the foot
  • Muscle weakness in the leg
  • Pain worsening with coughing or sneezing

If you experience sudden loss of bladder or bowel control, seek immediate medical attention. This may be a sign of cauda equina syndrome.

Modern treatment options

Conservative treatment

In most cases, a herniated disc can be treated without surgery: physical therapy, medication, and nerve blocks.

Endoscopic microdiscectomy

When conservative treatment fails, endoscopic microdiscectomy allows removal of the herniation through an incision less than 1 cm. Patients are discharged the same day.

Our team has performed more than 27,600 endoscopic and spine operations in total.
